From this Thursday, the Coprínceps square, in Escaldes-Engordany, will be under the watchful eye of a sculpture of the Egyptian goddess Nefertiti. The work was the work of sculptor Jordi Díez, who described the creation as “a sculpture that, apart from being of exceptional formal rigor, proposes a kind of enigma”. For Díez, this mystery lies in how it is possible for a person of that time to have such a high evolutionary level, referring to his physiognomy. The sculptor also emphasized that he has focused especially on working on the absence of eyes in the sculpture which, as he said, “provides a very special look, since it does not look and at the same time observes everything”. The work, known as Nefer 2.0, is placed on a base of granite stone from Andorra of approximately 1,500 kilos. The structure itself is made of steel and measures 1.80 meters.
As Díez explained, “the sculpture has been possible thanks to a three-dimensional scanning and then a whole series of weldings have given the work to be finished”. On the other hand, Josep Tudel, Escaldes-Engordany’s mayor councilor, confessed that “it has been a great good fortune to find the artist and, moreover, that the sculpture was available, since it has a great international projection”, and added that “this work is a detail that had been missing for a long time in the Coprínceps square”. Tudel has advanced that in a principle “this emplacement will be of definitive character”.
